RARE REHEARSAL FOOTAGE FROM THE BALLROOM SCENE
FROM THE SPIKE LEE FILM MALCOLM X
I love this historical piece as this master teaches
the essence of partnering. Please take a look.

We were on our break, and these two dancers " Swang" How terrific is this? I happen to have captured this on camera. Historic! Super!
As a choreographer for the film Malcolm X's ballroom scene, I wanted to make sure that wherever the camera looked, there was authentic action. I didn't show the camera anything I did not want it to see.
Wanting to have a natural real people quality, I cast people of different races, ages, weights, heights, and sizes. Near the end, the dance calms down to allow Malcolm (Denzil) to take the stage.
Our first run-through with all the mistakes and roughness
of the number. But you get the essence of what we are trying to do.
